In December 2009, Attorneys Richard C. Angino and Lisa M. B. Woodburn achieved a $1.35 million dollar verdict from a Philadelphia jury for their clients against Tenet Health Systems St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, LLC. This medical malpractice case was filed by the parents individually and as the administrators of the estate of their 7-month old child who died while under the care of medical providers from St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
Plaintiffs alleged that their daughter, Abby Mae, died on July 29, 2005, after being admitted to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children for approximately two months. Her death resulted from negligent care provided by the medical staff at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children when they failed to appreciate her deteriorating condition, failed to prescribe appropriate antibiotics and failed to replace a displaced endotracheal tube. The jury found the hospital responsible for Abby Mae's death. Following a 5 day trial and almost another full day of deliberations, the jury rendered a verdict for Plaintiffs. The jury awarded $650,000 under the Wrongful Death Act, and awarded each parent $350,000 for their claim of negligent infliction of emotional distress.
